Have you noticed that there are a lot of people that have tattoos these days? In the past you may have only seen tattoos on people such as sailors, outlaws, and biker gangs but now tattoos are a very popular body decoration for many people. The types and styles of tattoos has also come a very long way. It is no longer crude pictures of pinup girls, skulls, and anchors. Tattoos have developed into very sophisticated art work ranging from Celtic crosses to very personalized symbols. People have found and created designs that express themselves in a very personal way.

Very simply a tattoos is a puncture wound made in the skin that is filled with ink. Although done differently today than in the past the technique is still somewhat similar. Today, tattoo artist use a tattoo gun that has one or more needles that penetrate the skin and delivery ink into the skin. Tattoos last a very long time due to the fact that the ink is placed deeply into the skin. The top layer of skins is called the epidermis and it is constantly shedding and being reproduced. If the ink from a tattoo was in this layer of skin it would not last very long. The layer of skin that the ink is injected to is called the dermis, which is a deeper layer of skin that is very stable and makes the tattoo stay visible almost permanently.

Tattoos in the past were done manually with a tool that they tapped on the skin to make the puncture wound and then the ink would be injected by hand. Most tattoo shops today have tattoo guns or machines to do this today, although you can still find areas around the world that still use the older style of tattooing. The tattoo guns make tattooing much more quickly today because the machine is able to deliver the ink into the skin as it is puncturing the skin. The tattoo artist can change the tip of the machine to contain one needle or group of needles depending on if they are drawing the outline of the design or shading part of the design. Most tattoo artist today are very skilled and know just how far to drive the needle into the skin to produce a good tattoo.

Tattoos have been a popular form of body art for thousands of years in Europe and Asia. With the spread of Christianity in Europe and the effort to convert tribal people with traditional cultures that involved ritual tattooing, to Western religions and cultures, the use of tattoos almost completely disappeared in Europe for a while, because it was considered a pagan practice. Europeans to see tattoos again after it had lost its popularity for so many years, were Captain Cook and his sailors when they visited the Marquesas Islands in the 18th Century.

Tattoos are rising in popularity and becoming more mainstream, much to the dismay of tattoo fans worldwide. With the number of people seeking plastic surgery on the rise, body art and body modifications, such as tattoos and piercings, are now commonplace. Tattoos can now be found on the bodies of everyone from fashion conscious teenagers to grandmas and everyone in between.

With the increase in the number of people getting tattoos, the only way to look different is to carry a truly unique tattoo style. This is the reason why more and more people are seeking unique tattoo designs. A unique tattoo design will make one truly stand out and attract a considerable amount of attention from others, either admiration or disgust, depending on the kind of reaction you are after. While some choose more abstract tattoo designs, using a well known mythical creature in your tattoo is one way of getting something unique while allowing people to instantly recognize your tattoo design. Believe it or nor, instant recognition of your tattoo is a good thing because people will perceive the qualities attributed to the mythical creature to the person wearing it. For example, a young woman with a fairy tattoo on her lower back will attract the attention of men who will attribute the qualities of a fairy to her and will believe her to be exciting and spontaneous even before they speak to her! Such is the power of tattoos of mythical beings.

Female tattoos or feminine designed tattoos are usually favored by women or girls are becoming increasingly familiar as tattooing became more socially acceptable, largely due to the many celebrities who publicly sported tattoos. These can be usually found in a great female tattoo gallery.

This kind of female tattoo gallery has tattoos that are usually smaller and prettier. Popular designs might include a butterfly, a flower or a Celtic design. Women's tattoo designs are also less heavy, less aggressive-looking. They tend to have thinner lines, though this is, of course, a generalization rather than a rule.

Women nowadays are gradually opting for large tattoos. 'New school' hearts, stars, roses and tribal tattoo designs on the lower back are increasingly being asked for by females. Therefore these days, a female tattoo gallery will have these popular designs as women are becoming more experimental in the shapes and sizes of their designs.

Many tattooists and female tattoo gallery report that when musicians, especially hip-hop artists get tattoos, there is usually a particular tattoo that is very popular. The popularity of lower back and stomach placement of tattoos suggests that most women still don't want their tattoos to be too obvious and also a desire for a more sexual placement of the tattoo.

The first thing to remember is to take your time when choosing a design for a tattoo. There is no need to rush when making such a life long decision. You will be wearing the expression you choose to reveal in body art for a good long while.

It is best to look around to see what is out there, before you have a tattoo inked onto your body. Time also gives you enough room to make any changes or alterations to any tattoo design that you find interesting. On the other hand, you can also be the proud bearer of a tattoo design that is loved by many other individuals. The choice is yours to make, choose wisely.

Colors and pictures have meanings; they correspond with different vibrations of feeling and understanding of things, which are symbolic. Research the meanings to colors and picture representation; this will aid you in choosing the best tattoo design, one that will please you.

Consideration should be given as to where you will have the tattoo placed. Placing a tattoo is as personal as the tattoo itself. Some people just figure out where they want it to be for their own viewing pleasure. Others place tattoos in certain areas of their body as symbolic representations as well.

Then again, it makes sense that if you want an illustrious manifestation of art work in living color, you may need to settle on which large area of body you would like that tattoo to be inked. Of course, you should always talk with your tattoo artist to get their expert perspective on tattoo placement.

You're thinking your appearance needs some spicing up, and that you wouldn't mind adding a little color to a secret place. But you also know that, if you're going to invest your money in a permanent bit of body décor, you need to put some thought into its design.

So you head for your friendly neighborhood tattoo parlor (with the skyrocketing popularity of tattoos you're bound to have one) to look for inspiration. You know that whatever you select will become a permanent part of your existence. You can cover it up, but you can't escape it. So you will need to choose carefully.

The first thing you may notice when you enter your tattoo parlor is just how many designs there are. It's not unusual for every nearly square inch of a parlor's walls to be covered with posters, nearly every square inch of which is covered with designs. You are experiencing "flash", and not because all of those designs and colors make your eyes feel like that a flashbulb just nailed them.

Tattooing was a staple of traveling carnivals in the early to mid 20th century, and carnival barkers were notorious for the shelves and shelves of cheesy gaudy prizes which they used to lure players to games completely rigged to relieve them of their money. Those prizes were known, among the barkers, as "flash", and it may be that the carnival tattoo artists adopted the term for their selection of tattoo designs.
